Trou d’Eau Douce is the classic gateway to Île aux Cerfs — a laid-back fishing village on the east coast where the catamarans moor just a short sail from the island. Departing from here means more time on the island and less time in transit, which is exactly why this is one of the most popular day trips in Mauritius.
The crossing itself is part of the charm. The catamaran glides out of the lagoon, past the traditional wooden pirogues and the mangroves, and before long the famous white sandbank of Île aux Cerfs appears on the horizon. Because the island sits so close, the boat settles into a relaxed rhythm of sailing, swimming and eating rather than rushing from stop to stop.
The day includes everything that makes Île aux Cerfs a bucket-list destination — a snorkelling break in the clear lagoon, a visit to the Grand River South East waterfall, a freshly grilled BBQ lunch on deck, and generous time to swim and sunbathe on one of the most photographed beaches in the world.
For families, first-time visitors and anyone who wants the full Île aux Cerfs experience with the shortest possible crossing, departing from Trou d’Eau Douce is the smart choice.
Step aboard the catamaran at the Trou d’Eau Douce jetty. The crew welcomes you, the open bar opens, and the boat eases away from the village into the calm east coast lagoon.
The crossing is brief and beautiful — past the pirogues, the mangroves and the shallow turquoise water, with the island drawing closer the whole way.
Anchor inside the island lagoon for a snorkelling break. The clear, shallow water is full of colourful reef fish, and the sandy bottom makes it easy for beginners.
Sail along the Grand River South East to the waterfall that pours into the ocean. Then settle in for a freshly grilled BBQ lunch — fish, chicken, salads — served on deck with the bar flowing.
Anchor near the famous white sandbank. Swim, sunbathe, or wander the beach. Optional water sports like parasailing are available on the island at extra cost.
Re-board for the short sail home. The bar stays open and music plays as you glide back to the village in the late afternoon light.
Vegetarian option available on advance request.
Menu subject to change without prior notice.
Important: Snorkelling equipment may not be provided on all sailings — confirm when booking or bring your own mask for the best fit.
