Intimate experience
There are few wildlife experiences on Earth as pure and exhilarating as watching wild dolphins in their natural habitat. And Tamarin Bay on the west coast of Mauritius is, quite simply, one of the best places in the world to do it.
Every morning, resident pods of spinner dolphins and bottlenose dolphins return to the sheltered waters of Tamarin Bay to rest and socialize after a night of feeding in the open ocean. Your skipper knows exactly where to find them. Within minutes of leaving shore, you could be watching dozens of dolphins leaping, spinning, and surfing right alongside the boat.
This is ethical dolphin watching — we follow the Mauritius dolphin watching code of conduct. No chasing, no harassing, no feeding. If the dolphins are relaxed and curious, they may swim close, and you can slip into the water to observe them from a respectful distance. When you see spinner dolphins launch themselves three metres into the air and spin seven times before splashing down — with the golden Mauritius sunrise behind them — it is genuinely one of those moments you will still be talking about decades later.

Not every dolphin tour is the same. Here is what makes our experience different — and why our guests rate us 4.9 out of 5.
We never chase or harass dolphins — respectful encounters only. Follows the Mauritius dolphin watching code of conduct.
Resident pods use Tamarin Bay daily. Our skippers know exactly where to find them for the best chance of encounters.
Early morning departures mean calmer seas, fewer boats, and dolphins at their most active and playful.
Unlike crowded tours, we keep group sizes small for a more intimate, personal wildlife experience.
Tamarin Bay is one of the most reliable places in the Indian Ocean for wild dolphin encounters. Get to know the two species you will meet.
Famous for their acrobatic spinning jumps — they can leap up to 3 metres in the air and spin up to 7 times before splashing back into the water. Pods of 20–50 are common in Tamarin Bay.
Larger and more robust than spinners, bottlenose dolphins are incredibly intelligent and often swim right alongside the boat, surfing the bow wave.
The bay's calm, deep waters make it the perfect resting ground for dolphins after a night of feeding at sea. They return here every morning — which is why our early tours are so successful.
Dolphins are resident year-round, so there is no off-season. The calmest sea conditions are typically October through April, but excellent sightings happen in every month.
Dolphin sightings occur on 85%+ of our departures. However, these are wild animals — encounters are subject to nature and we never guarantee sightings.
A perfectly paced 2.5-hour morning — early enough to catch the dolphins at their most active, brief enough to leave you the rest of your day.
Arrive at the meeting point on the beautiful west coast just as the sun starts to rise. Meet your experienced skipper, complete a safety briefing, and get fitted with life jackets. The sea is usually calm and glassy at this hour — perfect conditions for dolphin watching.
Push off from shore and head into Tamarin Bay as the first golden light hits the water. Your skipper knows exactly where the resident dolphin pods spend their mornings. Keep your eyes peeled — dolphins often appear within the first 15 minutes.
This is why you came. Watch in awe as pods of spinner and bottlenose dolphins emerge from the deep — leaping, spinning, and surfing the bow wave right beside the boat. If conditions are right and the dolphins are relaxed, you can slip into the water for a respectful swim nearby. Most guests say this single hour was the best part of their entire Mauritius holiday.
Move to different spots around the bay to find additional pods. The west coast is home to multiple resident groups, and your skipper will take you to where activity is best. Plenty of time for photos, videos, and simply soaking in the magic of wild dolphins in crystal-clear water.
After the dolphins, cruise to the Flic en Flac reef — one of the best snorkeling spots on the west coast. Jump in amongst tropical fish, colourful corals, and crystal-clear shallows. Snorkeling equipment is provided on board.
Cruise back to Tamarin Bay with the morning sun warming your skin, a big smile on your face, and memories of wild dolphins that will stay with you forever. Most guests are back at their hotel before 10 AM — with the whole day still ahead.

“Great morning out — we saw dolphins within 15 minutes of leaving shore. They were beautiful. Only giving 4 stars because the water was a bit choppy that day, but that is nature. Would book again.”
